The Inspiration Behind PHX Beer Co.’s Special New Limited-Edition Craft Beer
By Michelle Glicksman | April 21, 2023

It’s a case of local honoring local.
Locally-owned and -operated brewery PHX Beer Co. just released a limited edition craft beer can as a nod to longtime Phoenix Suns announcer Al McCoy. There are 51 cases of Shazaaam! Valley Style IPA available as a tribute to McCoy’s official retirement after 51 of calling basketball for the Phoenix Suns.
“Since this year marks an end to Al McCoy’s illustrious career, we couldn’t think of a better way to honor him,” says Adam Wojcik, PHX Beer Co.’s brewery director. “He served as the Suns’ announcer for 51 years so we chose to design a can based on the 1972 Phoenix Suns uniforms.”
Wojcik describes Shazaam as a “Valley style IPA.”
“It has hints of mango, juicy fruit, and papaya,” he says. “Slightly bitter but the tropical fruits give it a clean finish. 7% ABV and 70 IBUs.”
The beer is available on tap at PHX Beer Co.’s Scottsdale Restaurant (8300 N. Hayden Road) and its Taphouse in Phoenix (3002 E. Washington St.), and four-packs are available at the Taphouse.
“Stop by our taproom or restaurant in Phoenix or the Mercado Lakeside restaurant in Scottsdale for a pint and a bite! Go Suns!” says Wojcik.
