Scottsdale Voters Say YES To Protecting The McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Improving Scottsdale Parks, Enhancing Public Safety
By Kendra Riley | November 14, 2024

Voting day has come and gone, and the results are in: Scottsdale’s parks and open spaces, as well as public safety, will get the resources they need and Scottsdale residents will get the services they deserve thanks to the passage of Props 490 and 491.
Prop 490, in addition to helping revitalize and maintain Scottsdale’s parks, beginning in the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt, will provide ongoing care and protection for the McDowell Sonoran Preserve for the next thirty years. That includes wildlife habitat protection and the long-term health and sustainability of the land. It will also provide funding to prevent and fight fires in and around the Preserve, as well as increased Police Rangers for the parks and the Preserve.”
Prop 491 will adjust state spending limits, giving the city the ability to spend the money it already has on services and public safety.
The Vote Yes-Yes Scottsdale PAC led the effort to pass Props 490 and 491.
“We’re extremely grateful to the voters of Scottsdale who supported us. It’s my sincere hope that over time, as this money is spent wisely and responsibly, those who voted no will come to see what wonderful benefits Props 490 and 491 will bring to our city,” said Campaign Coordinator Carla.
Former Scottsdale Mayor and Campaign Chairwoman Mary Manross said, “Almost sixty years ago Scottsdale had the wisdom and foresight to create the Greenbelt and, thirty years ago, to create the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. That wisdom and foresight are still with us today.”
