Sphinx Date Co. Palm & Pantry, the beloved Old Town Scottsdale destination known for its Arizona-grown Medjool dates; locally crafted food, wine, and gifts; and signature date shakes, is relocating this summer.
According to a released statement, the unexpected move is due to “a sudden and unexpected change in the lease terms of its current location in Old Town, which the business has called home for the past 30 years.”
Sphinx Date Co.’s roots date back to the 1920s, when a Black Sphinx date seedling was discovered in a Phoenix neighborhood, eventually leading to the planting of the region’s first date ranch in Arcadia. Over the years, the company has grown from wholesaling dates—including partnering with Harry & David—to operating a retail shop frequented by locals, visitors, and celebrities alike. In recent years, the business expanded its offerings to include a variety of locally made goods and its now-famous date shake.
The mother-daughter team behind the business, Sharyn and Rebecca Seitz, say the relocation comes at an already challenging time—Scottsdale’s slower summer season—but they remain hopeful about the future. In the released statement, they ask for the community’s continued support during the transition: “Any small gesture can make a big difference—such as stopping into the shop (current hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), placing an online order, sharing Sphinx stories, or making a donation.”
Current location: 3039 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251
