FEATURE FRIDAY: The Hormone Zone, Working Together, and Training With SWAT Officers
By Michelle Glicksman | February 28, 2025

Drs. John A. Robinson and Cristina Romero-Bosch, longtime Scottsdale residents, are founders of the Scottsdale wellness center The Hormone Zone, bringing holistic care to longevity and wellness through their expertise in hormone optimization.
Dr. Robinson has been involved in the wellness industry for over 30 years, having worked at The Spa at Marriott’s Camelback Inn, then providing advanced massage therapy for 14 years. He helped found the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture, and has been practicing naturopathic medicine for the past 18 years.
Dr. Bosch comes from a family of doctors and has always been surrounded by medicine and health. She has degrees in nutrition and dietetics and has always believed food is key to living a fulfilled life. She completed her residency at Yale University in conjunction with Bridgeport University School of Naturopathic Medicine.
Here, they talk about balancing hormones, working together, and more.
What is The Hormone Zone?
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: The Hormone Zone is a premier medical practice in Arizona for advanced hormone therapy and longevity options. We have served Scottsdale and the surrounding areas for 18 years and have been key thought leaders in health and wellness. We offer bespoke treatments for discerning patients who know their health should be optimized for life.
Why is hormone optimization important?
Dr. Robinson: After 18 years of doing this, it is clear that hormone replacement therapy is one of the most important things someone can do for their health and longevity. Hormone optimization is a specific approach that ensures hormones are balanced at the peak of their function, creating the best outcomes for patients.
Dr. Bosch: I have seen this help so many women at so many different ages. It is the elixir of life, and it particularly helps people with their intimate relationships, which is always great!
If your hormones are out of whack, this could be affecting your…
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: Hormones affect everything! Virtually every tissue in your body needs the health-optimizing effects of hormones. Pick any body part and any system—it can be related to some form of hormone imbalance.
What types of treatments help?
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: We look at the body comprehensively, so our treatment protocols are very thorough. We evaluate all of your hormones and have strategies to replace and balance them.
Realistically, how often should someone have their levels checked?
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: We believe in consistent testing. Ideally, someone should get their levels checked very early in life, before experiencing significant symptoms. Once over 35, we suggest annual testing. Once a patient is on therapy, if needed, testing is typically done a couple of times per year.
Life is all about balance in general. How do you de-stress?
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: We are under constant stress—we all are. We have multiple businesses across the country, four daughters, a grandson, nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. Our responsibilities are vast. We de-stress in the moment, even in the midst of stress. We laugh and love more when the stress is highest.
How do you have fun?
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: We have fun just by being with each other! We are constantly laughing at the absurdities of life and enjoy each other’s company. We spend time with family and make meals and good food an event in itself.
Favorite place in the world to visit?
Dr. Robinson: I have fallen in love with Edinburgh, Scotland. I have had the chance to visit several times over the past few years, and it is a magical place. I am of Scottish, English, and Celtic heritage, and it always feels like home to me—it’s incredibly familiar.
Dr. Bosch: I was born in Spain, and our family has made a tradition of spending the summer in northern Spain. Spain is magical, and our children are fluent in Spanish and greatly enjoy these trips. In fact, during a recent visit to St. James Cathedral and the city of Santiago de Compostela, I discovered that part of our family heritage comes from that region, which is interestingly Celtic. It made me realize that John and I share even more of the same background.
Best thing about working together?
Drs. Robinson and Bosch: We have worked together for years, from school to various businesses, as an inseparable couple and as committed parents. Work for us is play. We are both naturally industrious people, and when we are actively working toward a goal, we are unstoppable.
One thing we’d be surprised to know about you?
Dr. Robinson: I have trained in Krav Maga, a military-style self-defense system, earning a brown belt. I have had the honor of training with members of law enforcement and even SWAT officers.
Dr. Bosch: I have gained and lost over 65-plus pounds three times throughout my pregnancies!
