Explore 'Color + Abstraction' at Royse Contemporary

“Colors, like features, follow the changes of the emotions,” said renowned artist Pablo Picasso.

This is examined in Color + Abstraction, a group exhibition exploring color and abstraction and reflecting upon the effects both create within artwork. The show is now on display at Royse Contemporary, a gallery in Scottsdale’s Arts District.

The participating artists utilize abstraction as a form of expression, as well as independence from artistic constraints, as they explore their subject and medium.

The emphasis on color, with either the inclusion or omission of it within their work, is important as there is often an emotional connection and response while viewing color.

As renowned artist Piet Mondrian once said, “Abstract art is not the creation of another reality but the true vision of reality.”

Royse has assembled an intriguing collection of work by artists working in an array of mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, and mixed media. This exhibition showcases the work of six noteworthy Arizona artists, including Cherie Buck-Hutchison, Gerry Groeber, Joe Ray, Daniel Shepherd, Marilyn Szabo, and Casey Wakefield.

Color + Abstraction will be on display at Royse Contemporary through July 23, 2023.
