Blaze Pizza Opens at Central/Camelback, Announces Support of Bono’s RED Campaign

Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza, which has locations in North Phoenix, Central Phoenix, Avondale, Tempe and Tucson, today announced it has teamed up with (RED) during the month of June to support the fight against AIDS. As part of the month-long EAT (RED) SAVE LIVES campaign, the company will rebrand its popular Red Vine pizza as the ‘(RED) Vine’ in each of the company’s nearly 200 restaurants throughout the country. Blaze will donate $1 each time a guest enjoys a signature (RED) Vine pizza and cold drink, contributing up to $50,000 to (RED)’s fight against AIDS. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will generously match Blaze’s donation, meaning that the total funds raised could provide $100,000 and 300,000 days of life-saving HIV/AIDS medication.

Every June, (RED) teams up with the culinary world for EAT (RED) SAVE LIVES. The campaign, led by Chef Mario Batali, began in 2014 and has enlisted leading (RED) chef ambassadors, restaurants and culinary brands to create food and social experiences that raise money and awareness to fight AIDS.

The Blaze Pizza Experience

The Blaze Pizza concept is a modern one, encompassing artisanal pizzas (either signature, or build your own), freshly made salads, a wicked blood orange lemonade and even s’mores pies made with McVitie’s cookies, marshmallow and chocolate.

We were excited to learn from Executive Chef Bradford Kent (aka “The Pizza Whisperer”) that all ingredients at Blaze Pizza are carefully selected. Also there are zero added nitrates in any of the food, making it that much healthier. What is fun about Blaze pizzas is that they only take 180 seconds to cook, and we got a kick out of watching the super efficient staff baking up pizza after pizza in the open flame oven.

The pizza crust is something extra special at Blaze, too. It is made with just a small amount of olive oil, an oil custom-created by Chef Kent to make his pizza dough exactly as he wants it. The thin crust dough requires a 24-hour fermentation time to specially create the light-as-air crisp crust. The difference is incredible and we were impressed with the fresh taste and the high quality of the ingredients.

The first pizza we ordered was the Hawaiian, a pizza standard by which we judge most pizza places. This version had crumbled Applewood bacon, pineapple and pepperoni. We loved watching how efficient the staff was in baking the pizza in 180 seconds. It’s incredible how quickly they can move pizzas through the open flame oven. While we were waiting for our pizza to bake, we also ordered a s’mores pie and had the crew fire that up in the oven as well.

The Hawaiian pizza was sheer perfection. It had a generous amount of toppings, was evenly baked and provided a satisfying meal with a crunch. Best of all? Most of the pizzas at Blaze Pizza are in the $8 range. Incredible! Whatever your favorite pizza, Blaze Pizza can create it. Gluten-free pizza and vegan options are a snap here, too. The s’mores pie was the perfect size to share between two people, and there are also brownies and cookies available, any of which are tastier when fired up in the oven!

We also enjoyed a build-it-yourself pizza with olives, bell peppers, mozzarella, onion and arugula, finished off with a pesto drizzle. This was an outstanding pizza, packed with fresh ingredients and not leaving us feeling weighed down. In short, this is pizza you can feel good about eating!

If you are craving even more greens, Try a Blaze Pizza salad. Choose a side salad, or make it an entrée size to feed a few people, you’ll be impressed. Also, sauces and dressings are those of Blaze Pizza and you’ll want to try them all!
