Gala will take place at J.W. Marriott Camelback Inn

It was 2008 and Marianne Mitchell, wife of then Congressman Harry Mitchell, complained of memory loss as she called her doctor for an appointment."Oh, I hope it's not Alzheimer's," the former Arizona congressman recalls his wife saying.

The news was not good."Mild cognitive disorder," was the diagnosis.Over time, it progressed into the very disease Marianne dreaded, taking her on a journey that has led her to a residential care facility.

Her husband, who represented Arizona's Fifth Congressional District from 2008 through 2011, will discuss that journey Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Alzheimer's Association Desert Southwest Chapter’s “A Love Not Forgotten” gala at J.W. Marriott Camelback Inn.

The Gala is one of the Alzheimer's Association's chief fund raising efforts.Money raised at the event helps sponsor education programs, staff a 24-hour helpline, facilitate support groups, and provide personalized support to Alzheimer’s families.

Eighty-seven percent of every dollar donated is used to support patients, care givers and their families. The remaining 13 percent goes to administration and fund raising.
