SUMMARY:Wiseman & Gale Featuring Studio Mike Diaz - Desert Design Week
DESCRIPTION:A conversation with Scott Burdick\, Managing Partner at Wiseman & Gale and Mike Diaz of Studio Mike Diaz\, a Mexico City–based decorative artist and esthete known for eye-catching furnishings and objects that play with history\, symbolism\, and scale in the most irresistible way. His work is celebrated for its rustic\, whimsical character\, bold forms\, and generous proportions\, often carrying ceremonial themes with an ironic edge. For more than twenty years\, he has collaborated with artisans and workshops in Michoacán and Guerrero\, alongside a wider network of experts in popular and fine art\, shaping pieces that feel tactile\, collected\, and full of presence. In the design world\, Mike Díaz is known for pulling from a wide range of references\, leaning into Mexican Baroque and Mexico’s visual history\, then translating it into something unmistakably his. He’s not interested in chasing what’s “in” right now. Collectors of his work tend to want furniture with real presence\, personality\, and staying power.

DESCRIPTION:The Saguaros are excited to announce the 27th Annual Olympiad\, taking place Friday\, April 17\, 2026\, at Scottsdale Stadium. The Olympiad is one of The Saguaros’ signature fundraisers as well as a team-building event designed to benefit children’s charities across Arizona. The public is invited to join the fun with a $100 donation for a ticket to the beer garden\, which includes food\, drinks\, and a front-row seat to the games. \nHosted annually at Scottsdale Stadium\, the Olympiad is a fun and turnkey opportunity for companies to build teams\, leadership skills\, and company culture\, while giving back to the community. At the event\, teams enjoy games like a home run derby\, dodgeball\, cornhole\, and obstacle courses. The goal on Olympiad Day is to conquer all other teams on the field and take home The Saguaros Olympiad Cup. \nThis year’s Olympiad promises to be bigger and more inclusive than ever. Historically drawing 65-70 teams\, The Saguaros are aiming for 100 corporate teams representing multiple industries\, including technology and innovation\, services\, healthcare and wellness\, and finance\, to name a few. \nA new halftime experience will allow participants to enjoy food and drinks\, while fundraising winners and the raffle winner of the coveted Bronco (generously donated by Earnhardt Ford) will be announced. Through a partnership with Phoenix Beer Co.\, special Saguaros Olympiad-branded beer will be available exclusively at the event. \n“The Olympiad has always been about community\, teamwork\, and supporting children in need\,” said Clayton Wolfe\, this year’s Saguaros Olympiad chair. “As we celebrate 27 years\, we’re excited to expand the event to include more industries\, grow our fundraising potential\, and make the event an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. If you lead a business or team and prioritize team building\, company culture\, leadership development\, and brand visibility\, and want to give back to your local community in a tangible way\, then the Olympiad is worth your attention.” \nFor more information\, visit saguaros.com/olympiad. Contact Saguaros Olympiad event chair Clayton Wolfe at cwolfe@saguaros.com for information about sponsorship opportunities or to register a team. \n\nAbout The Saguaros\nThe Saguaros are a Scottsdale-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children through charitable initiatives\, community engagement\, and fundraising events. SUMMARY:Lenhardt Lecture: Caroline Kent
DESCRIPTION:Kent\, an associate professor in the Art\, Theory\, and Practice department at Northwestern University\, was born in Sterling\, Illinois in 1975\, earning a Bachelor of Arts from Illinois State University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Minnesota. From 2000 to 2002\, she lived in Alba Iulia\, Romania\, as a Peace Corps volunteer. \nKent’s work explores the limits of language and the process of translation through an expanded painting practice. \nDeveloped through an open-ended archive of improvisational works on paper\, her paintings built from this context take multiple forms\, including drawings\, sculpture\, and performance. She labors to expand the discourse of modernist abstraction by questioning how language operates in unknown and ever-evolving conditions. Her work moves from surface and frame to environment and architecture through acts of translation from one medium to the next. \nAbout The Lenhardt Lecture \nThe David and Dawn Lenhardt Lecture engages Valley audiences with some of the most acclaimed contemporary artists in the world. In 2018\, the inaugural lecture presented New York-based artist Jim Hodges\, and subsequent lectures have featured artists Shara Hughes\, Daniel Joseph Martinez\, Arcmanoro Niles\, Teresita Fernández in conversation with Amalia Mesa-Bains\, Derek Fordjour\, Rashid Johnson\, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe in conversation with Larry Ossei-Mensah\, Leonardo Drew\, Lily Stockman\, Eamon Ore-Giron\, Charles Gaines in conversation with Thelma Golden\, and Adam Pendleton in conversation with Adrianne Edwards.

SUMMARY:Arizona Fine Art EXPO - Master Sculptors in the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Arizona Fine Art EXPO\, a 10-week fine art show in north Scottsdale\, is hosting a special “Master Sculptors in the Garden” on Saturday\, Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests can enjoy complimentary wine or beer while watching stone sculptor Jess Davila and knife maker Loren Feldman demonstrate in the venue’s expanded sculpture garden\, which features dozens of diverse sculptures by acclaimed sculptors\, and includes a Koi pond with waterfall set in the natural desert. \nCelebrating its 22nd year\, the Arizona Fine Art EXPO has been underway since mid-January and runs daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sunday\, March 29 under the “festive white tents” at 26540 N. Scottsdale Rd.\, on the southwest corner of Scottsdale and Jomax Roads\, next to MacDonald’s Ranch. The event features more than 90 diverse artists in 124 patron-friendly working studios within a 44\,000 square-foot space\, where guests have a rare chance to meet the artists\, see them in action\, and learn about their inspiration and techniques. \nJess Davila has been participating in Arizona Fine Art EXPO since the event began. He said it has been rewarding to watch how the show has grown\, and he is especially excited about the expanded sculpture garden. \n“In the past two years\, the sculpture garden has transformed into a truly beautiful space where art and nature converge\,” Davila said. “Not only do I enjoy working there\, I love taking a break to visit the garden and relax in this enchanting place. It is a serene setting with little animals\, natural plants\, butterflies and birds—and art objects that have enhanced the area.” \nA self-taught artist and U.S. veteran\, Davila has earned many accolades for his contemporary buffalo\, bear\, giraffe\, eagle and figurative and abstract sculptures made from marble\, alabaster\, sandstone and limestone\, calcite and onyx. He also creates javelina pieces using basalt\, a volcanic rock. \nLoren Feldman creates one-of-a-kind knives that are artistic and functional. The blades are made from the finest American carbon and stainless-steel Damascus and iron meteorite from the core of another planet\, which is older than the earth. He also uses fine minerals\, rare gems and dinosaur bone as inlay in the handles of his knives. \n“I pride myself on keen attention to detail and maintaining symmetry. Collectors\, hunters\, ranchers\, and others use them in the kitchen\, displaying their knives in the home or office. Some people wear them like a fine piece of jewelry\,” Feldman said.
