Kimes Ranch Derby 2025
May 28 - June 7

The National Reined Cow Horse Association will return to WestWorld in Scottsdale for the fifth year in a row with its 11-day cow horse competition, Kimes Ranch Derby. The event will take place May 28 – June 7 and will be free and open to all ages.
“We’re thrilled to announce NRCHA’s coveted Derby competition will return to Scottsdale for the fifth year,” said Callie McCarthy-Boevers, NRCHA director of marketing. “This event is a celebration of the Western lifestyle, and it’s free for the whole family to enjoy. Come watch some of the country’s top riders and horses compete, then explore our tradeshow showcasing handcrafted Western art, jewelry, fashion, and more.”
The derby will see 4-and-5-year-old horses and their riders competing in three challenging events – herd work, rein work and fence (cow) work –through preliminary rounds to determine who will return for the clean-slate finals on June 7. Many of the horse and rider pairs competed at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity® when the horses were 3 years old. Horses may be shown in either a snaffle bit or a hackamore in the NRCHA Derby. The event features nine divisions to suit all levels, from million-dollar riders in the Open, entry-level competitors in the Non Pro Limited and Boxing, and every level of competitor in between.
A NRCHA Derby highlight event, The Holy Cow Performance Horses CD Survivor Open Bridle Spectacular, will feature many of the industry’s seasoned and successful older horses in the bridle vying for $25,000 in added money through herd, rein and cow works. The Intermediate Open Bridle Spectacular has $2,500 added.
In addition to the limited-aged event and the Spectaculars, a full slate of horse show classes will feature added money that totals over $52,750. This includes the Open and Non Pro Two Rein Spectaculars, Non Pro Bridle Spectacular, Non Pro Boxing Spectacular and two Youth Spectaculars.
A vendor village will feature bespoke western goods, and title sponsor Kimes Ranch will also have a display of their premium western apparel. Concessions will be available through WestWorld alongside a rotation of local food trucks.
