Want to Get Away For the Holidays? Here Are Two Cheap Flights From Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport
By Michelle Glicksman | December 4, 2024
Think it’s too late to score flights—or ones that won’t cost you a month’s salary—this holiday season? It’s not, and there are definitely still some deals to be had. We checked in with Dollar Flight Club, which analyzed thousands of routes over the holidays and uncovered the most budget-friendly international and domestic destinations that you can still book for travel between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
“Phoenix travelers are in a great spot to find last-minute holiday flight deals if they act fast,” says affordable travel expert and CEO and founder of Dollar Flight Club Jesse Neugarten. “With competitive fares out of Sky Harbor, there’s still time to book affordable trips to top destinations like Miami from $256 roundtrip or Copenhagen from $620 roundtrip. Flexibility and using the right tools, like fare alerts, can make all the difference in saving money this holiday season rather than wasting money.”
Both the Miami (MIA) and Copenhagen (CPH) routes at that price are on American Airlines.
Neugarten offers these tips to score great prices.
- Expand Your Search to Include Nearby Airports
While Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) offers a wide variety of routes, don’t overlook nearby airports like Tucson International Airport (TUS) for potentially cheaper fares. A quick search might reveal that driving a few hours could save you hundreds on your next flight. We have seen fares from Phoenix to NYC be $300 more expensive than flying out of Tucson, so it could be very worthwhile to make the drive particularly if you live south of Phoenix.
- Set Price Alerts or Subscribe to Dollar Flight Club
Timing is everything when it comes to holiday travel, particularly in the Phoenix market. Using price alerts through platforms like Skyscanner, Google Flights, or subscribing to a service like Dollar Flight Club—a free membership service that helps travelers find the best flight deals across the globe—can give you a leg up. I’ve seen holiday flights drop to Europe from Phoenix on a whim for as low as $300 if you’re quick enough to jump on the deal. The key is to stay ready because the good deals never last very long this time of year.
- Consider Booking One-Way Flights
From Phoenix, piecing together one-way flights can often be cheaper than round-trip options. For example, flying to Miami on American Airlines and returning with United might save you money compared to booking a single round-trip ticket on American.
- Watch for Fare Drops on Flights You’ve Already Booked
Many airlines operating out of Phoenix, including American and United, allow rebooking if prices drop. Check your current bookings regularly and take advantage of credits or refunds if fares decrease after you’ve locked in your trip.
