You probably drive by it all the time. You know that row of auto dealerships near Chauncey Lane and Scottsdale Road—yes, where Aston Martin, Bentley, Audi, BMW, Acura, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, and more are located? Nestled among them is a unique museum dedicated to the cars, trophies, and racing memorabilia that chronicle the illustrious career of Penske Racing.
The Penske Racing Museum, located in Penske Automall, celebrates the legacy of Team Penske, one of the most successful racing organizations in motorsports history. Step inside and you’ll find a rich collection of historic race cars, trophies, memorabilia, and exhibits that span decades of competition across top-level series like IndyCar and NASCAR. In fact, Penske Racing has 50 years of racing experience and over 600 major race wins, highlighted by 20 Indianapolis 500-mile race victories.
On exhibit are Indianapolis 500-mile race winners, including the 1979 Penske PC 6 driven by Rick Mears to win his first of four Indy 500s and the 1985 March 85C driven by Danny Sullivan to win the 1985 Indy 500. You’ll see the 2015 Ford Fusion driven to victory at the Daytona 500 by Joey Logano. There is also a replica of the 1963 Pontiac Catalina that Roger Penske drove to victory in the 1963 Riverside 250, and Rusty Wallace’s Dodge Charger from the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup.
The auto racing museum offers free admission, and there’s an on-site cafe if you need a bite to eat while you’re there. Also, on the third Saturday of every month, the museum hosts Cars & Coffee in its parking lot. Hot coffee is available, and food trucks are on-site.
