Four-time NBA Champion and two-time MVP Stephen Curry is once again driving change beyond the basketball court.

Curry announced the return of the UNDERRATED Golf Tour presented by KPMG for its fifth U.S. season—and yes, the tour is stopping in Scottsdale. One of its key destinations is Troon North Golf Club, where top young golfers from across the country will compete July 13–15.

A National Tour, A Local Stage

While the UNDERRATED Golf Tour spans the country, its Scottsdale stop stands out.

Set against the desert landscape of Troon North, the event will not only bring together approximately 120 student-athletes for elite tournament play but will also provide opportunities for participants to connect directly with college coaches, golf executives, and industry leaders.

A Mission Bigger Than the Game

Now in its fifth season, UNDERRATED Golf continues to evolve as a purpose-driven initiative focused on expanding participation and opening doors for student-athletes from every community.

“From day one, UNDERRATED Golf has never just been about playing the game,” says Stephen Curry, who launched the program in 2022. “It’s about creating access and opening doors for young athletes who might not have seen themselves in this space before. Golf gave me so many opportunities and I’ve always believed the game should be more inclusive. KPMG believed in that vision from the beginning and helped us build something real around it. Five seasons in, it’s amazing to see how this platform continues to grow and impact the next generation.”

Backed by KPMG LLP, the tour blends high-level competition with leadership development, mentorship, and career exposure, making each stop, including Scottsdale, a launchpad for future success.

The Road to the Curry Cup

The Scottsdale event is one of several national stops leading to the season finale from Sept. 15-17 at the Curry Cup at Bethpage Black Golf Course in Farmingdale, New York, one of the country’s most iconic public courses. The other stops include June 30–July 2, Mark Bostick Golf Course, Gainesville, Florida; July 21–23, Seaview Country Club, Galloway, New Jersey; and Aug. 2–4, Hillcrest Country Club, Los Angeles.

Top boys and girls from each stop, including Scottsdale, will earn the chance to compete for the title. The finale will also feature international players, as winners from the UNDERRATED Golf European stop join the field.

“We are honored to host the Curry Cup at Bethpage Black and to welcome these young athletes who have worked hard all season to earn their place at one of New York’s great public courses,” says NY State Parks Acting Commissioner Kathy Moser. “State Parks are places where everyone is welcome, and where access to world-class venues helps open doors and create opportunity. I hope that when these athletes step onto this stage, they feel they belong here and leave believing even more in what’s possible for their future.”

Building Leaders On and Off the Course

A key component of the UNDERRATED Golf experience—one that Scottsdale participants will also be part of—is its emphasis on leadership.

The KPMG Leadership Development Day, held during the Curry Cup, reinforces the program’s commitment to preparing student-athletes for success in any field.

“This sponsorship is about more than the game—it’s about investing in the next generation of leaders,” says Tim Walsh, KPMG U.S. Chair and CEO. “We’re proud to continue our work with Stephen Curry, his team, and Mariah Stackhouse to create meaningful leadership development opportunities that help young golfers build skills, confidence, and perspective they’ll carry into their careers, their communities, and whatever future they choose to pursue.”

LPGA Tour player and KPMG brand ambassador Mariah Stackhouse will also return as the UNDERRATED Golf brand ambassador for the U.S. Tour.

Why It Matters for Scottsdale

For Scottsdale, a city already known for its deep golf culture, the arrival of UNDERRATED Golf signals something more meaningful than another tournament.

It brings a new generation of talent into the spotlight, and it positions the Valley as a key stop in a movement that’s redefining the future of golf.

This summer, at Troon North, it won’t just be about who wins. It’ll be about who gets the opportunity to step onto the course—and what doors open next.
