Meet the Scottsdale Associate VP Helping Rebuild Iraq’s Banking System
By Jennifer Sturgeon | May 22, 2025

Scottsdale Community Bank‘s Sayf Mahbuba is heading to Baghdad, Iraq, to help re-establish the country’s banking system. Mahbuba was the Associate Vice President, Loan Portfolio, and Credit Department Manager at the bank, which is the first locally-owned and -operated bank to open in Scottsdale since before the financial crisis.
His Role in Scottsdale
Mahbuba joined Scottsdale Community Bank soon after graduating college and rose quickly through the ranks, relying on a strong combination of quantitative, qualitative, analytical and marketing skills to serve the bank’s clientele. Over the course of his 36-month tenure, he earned multiple promotions and accolades, ultimately adopting the role of the bank’s youngest-ever associate vice president and banking officer.
“Sayf brought energy, curiosity and an eagerness to learn to the Scottsdale Community Bank team, and while we’re sad to see him go, we’re supportive of his decision and eager to follow his future accomplishments,” says Scottsdale Community Bank president and CEO Neill LeCorgne. “Sayf has the knowledge, ability and drive needed to make a real difference in Iraq’s ongoing economic recovery.”
Throughout his time at the bank, Mahbuba served on a number of important bank committees that helped steer the bank’s direction.
His Next Step
Now, as he returns to Iraq, where his father is active in politics, Mahbuba plans to work with financial institutions in and around Baghdad to launch new lending programs, broaden economic opportunities, and implement impactful reforms in a region still recovering from years of conflict and economic instability.
