Locally Made Gin Wins Gold Medal at The Fifty Best Competition

Carrying the legacy of Old Town Scottsdale’s first and only micro-distillery, One Handsome Bastard was awarded a gold medal from The Fifty Best. The Fifty Best, a digital guide for wines and spirits, evaluated 22 contenders for the annual “Best Gin” award, selecting Blue Clover Gin as a 2024 gold medal recipient.

“We’re honored to be able to carry on Blue Clover Distillery’s legacy as Old Town Scottsdale’s first and only micro-distillery by continuing to produce and manufacture the award-winning spirits originally conceptualized by Weston Holm,” says Trish Ritchie, owner and operator of One Handsome Bastard. “For years, the Valley has enjoyed Blue Clover gin, and we’re excited to continue Blue Clover’s dedication to craft liquor.”

At The Fifty Best competition, judges evaluated each contender on a five-point system, with five being the highest score. Double-gold, gold, and silver medals were awarded according to a set range of final point scores received from the judges. The complete results, along with tasting notes, can be viewed here.

Blue Clover Gin is a handcrafted modern take on gin. Drawing inspiration from the American Southwest, Blue Clover’s main botanicals are blood orange, rose, and peach. This Gin is light in Juniper berries and heavy in fruit, making it fragrant, light, refreshing, and perfect for the Arizona heat.

One Handsome Bastard hand-distills and manufactures its small-batch gin and vodka on-site. They produce a wide variety of gin, vodka, and flavor-infused liquors. House-made infused liquor flavors include grapefruit, green chile, blood orange, lemon, and strawberry.

At the brick-and-mortar location, enjoy craft cocktails, elevated bar food, and a laid-back atmosphere. One Handsome Bastard is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., where patrons can enjoy half price cocktails and a dollar off draft beer and wine.
