This month, autos are top of mind as all the famous auto auctions and lifestyle events roar into the Valley: Barrett-Jackson, Arizona Concours d’Elegance, MAG Auctions Collector Car Auction, Bonhams, and RM Sotheby’s. Whether you’re a serious collector or just an auto enthusiast, here’s what you need to know about each.
JAN. 18-26: Barrett-Jackson
Barrett-Jackson’s signature automotive lifestyle event has been drawing enthusiasts from around the world for more than 50 years. This year, it’s being held once again at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
The event kicked off with the 2nd annual “Rock the Block” concert on Fri., Jan. 17, headlined by Sammy Hagar and Friends. Hagar actually sold his 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari at the Scottsdale Fall Auction.
The event opens on Sat., Jan. 18 with Family Day. Children aged 12 and under receive free admission with a ticketed adult. Find STEM-focused organizations, including Barrett-Jackson’s Gearing Towards the Future initiative, created in conjunction with the SciTech Institute, as well as STEM Fest presented by Honeywell, and the introduction of all 50 contenders for the esteemed custom car competition, the Barrett-Jackson Cup presented by Castrol.
On Mon., Jan.20, the auction begins, with approximately 1,800 collector cars, trucks and suvs crossing the auction block, as well as authentic automobilia. The auctions continue through Sun., Jan. 26. Some of the collectible vehicles scheduled to be auctioned include two custom Chevrolet Corvettes (a 1963 Split-Window Coupe and a 1967 convertible, both designed and built by Jeff Hayes), while the line of supercars includes a rare 2019 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake (No. 26 of only 99 built worldwide and one of only 11 in the U.S.). Also set to cross the auction block is a custom 1962 Dodge Power Wagon. For this vehicle, 100% of the hammer price will benefit the mikeroweWORKS Foundation supporting skilled trades education.
The event also features Hot Laps and Thrill Rides with leading automotive manufacturers, off-road experiences, driving experiences in some of the latest vehicles, and live music.

JAN. 19: Arizona Concours d’Elegance
Dress to impress—period costumes are encouraged for both participants and spectators—and head to this event on Sun., Jan. 19, where 100 rare, classic, and historic automobiles and motorcycles will be displayed at the Scottsdale Civic Center, in a stylish garden party atmosphere.
The Concours is a professionally judged and curated assembly of rarely seen dream cars and highly valued collector vehicles. Each automotive item on display is an authentic example, whether original, restored or custom, and they range from the earliest runabouts and “horseless carriages,” through the Art Deco era, to the exotic super sports cars of the modern age. View examples from Bugatti, Duesenberg, Stutz, and Ferrari.
“The Art of Automotive Engineering” was chosen as the theme for this seventh edition of the event, which is presented in partnership with Scottsdale Arts, the nonprofit organization providing artistic services to the city of Scottsdale.
Sixteen classes were chosen for this year’s Concours, with awards in each class, along with special awards and the two coveted Best of Show trophies. Last year’s Best of Show winners were a pair of European sports cars: a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 (pre-war award) and a 1967 Lamborghini Miura (post-war award). In addition to the awards for autos, a special award will be presented for the most enjoyable outfit.
