Jonathan Henderson, co-owner of Wilde Meyer Gallery in Downtown Scottsdale, started in the art business in 1983 when he moved to the area with his mother, Betty Wilde, and her partner.
Betty had owned an art gallery in Oklahoma, and the family made the move to Scottsdale when Jonathan was a teenager to open a location in Scottsdale.
“I’ve been at it ever since!” he says.

For those who haven’t been there yet, how would you describe Wilde Meyer Gallery?
An eclectic collection of art by artists both regional and otherwise. We are known for our color and wide array of genres and themes.
What makes the gallery unique within the Scottsdale art scene?
Mostly the diversity in pieces that we show. We have everything from pieces that are pretty traditional to ones that are incredibly contemporary.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about running a gallery?
It’s a lot more work than most people realize.
What first drew you to the art world?
Well, I grew up around art as it was one of my mother’s passions and I guess it rubbed off on me.
A must-see artist in your gallery right now?
Jeremy Serna. He does primarily contemporary Western paintings of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes in a very loose, colorful style.
Coffee or cocktails while talking art?
I guess that depends on the art you’re discussing and whom you’re discussing it with.
Your favorite locales around Scottsdale?
Really the whole Downtown Scottsdale area is a wonderful place. There are galleries, restaurants, pubs, and amazing shopping all within walking distance. Citizen Public House is one of my favorite restaurants in the area.
Motto you live by?
Live with art!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
