FEATURE FRIDAY: Constance McCarty Talks Spa, Brunch, and Relaxing
By Michelle Glicksman | February 2, 2024
Constance McCarty had more than 20 years of spa experience when she joined Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, A Gurney’s Resort & Spa as its spa director in the summer of 2023. In her role, she leads all spa and wellness operations across the property, including the robust fitness programming.
Before joining the Gurney’s team, McCarty held roles at a series of renowned spas and resorts, including the Silverleaf Club in Arizona, Desert Mountain Club, Village Health Clubs & Spas, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and The Phoenician.
Here, she talks all things spa, and shares some of her personal favorites.
Spa director seems like a dream job! What does it entail?
Being spa director at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain, A Gurney’s Resort & Spa means you wear many hats—from overseeing staffing, operating costs, and training to wellness partners, retail products, and more. The most rewarding aspect of my position is cultivating a space where our providers can continue to learn how to create and deliver valuable experiences for our guests. Being present and front and center on new products and trends that allow us to create new treatments and classes is also so very key—it allows us the opportunity to provide our guests with the tangible tools that they can use to enhance their overall wellbeing, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit.
What do you think makes the The Sanctuary Spa at Sanctuary at Camelback Mountain special?
The most important aspect of Sanctuary Spa that sets us apart is the quality of our services. Our vastly certified providers create a personalized journey for every individual that walks through our doors. From the check-in process to relaxing in our quiet room following a therapy, nothing is rushed. It is a thoughtfully personalized experience, so that guests leave feeling balanced and renewed. We meet our guests where they are.
What are some of your most popular or most unique treatments?
Some of our most popular treatments are Watsu™, Tok Sen, and Golden Lotus Balancing Ritual.
Your favorite treatment?
My favorite treatment is the Complete Regeneration Facial, which leaves you feeling more youthful, fuller, and radiant!
One thing you personally do to relax?
Sitting outside with a cup of coffee in my backyard.
Favorite places around Scottsdale?
I like to hike Pinnacle Peak. Dining at places that have lovely outdoor patios is always delightful. My favorite places for brunch are Eggstacy and The Mission!
When you’re not working, we’d find you …
Standing on the sidelines supporting and cheering for my kids in all of their extracurricular activities.
