Get in the Holiday Spirit at the New Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra’s First Holiday Performance
By Michelle Glicksman | December 5, 2023
There’s a new sound in town. The Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra was recently formed to “provide affordable, professional quality live concert events that uplift, inspire, and culturally enrich its audience, as well as its members.”
And now the group, which comprises professionally trained musicians from Scottsdale and the surrounding areas, is taking to the stage for its first holiday performance, “Holiday Cheer!”.
The concert will be held on Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
“This is not your typical holiday concert—this truly promised to be a meaningful experience for audience and orchestra alike,” says Denise Wilson, board chair.
The concert will feature beloved Christmas melodies, tributes to Chanukah, a holiday sing-along, and a special surprise guest. There will also be a hot cocoa bar, festival holiday drinks, and festive music performed by The King’s Carolers in the lobby prior to the performance.
The new group is currently conducting a worldwide search for its music director and this season will feature the finalist candidates for the position as guest conductors. For Holiday Cheer! the finalist and guest conductor is Charlotte Ruth Harrison. Harrison hand-selected each piece for the concert.
“Music so aptly portrays the beauty of the holiday season, especially with the varied music selected for our Dec. 10 concert. Music moves the human spirit in the same way that a holiday brings family and friends together,” Harrison says. “We hope that friends and family will gather together and enjoy the celebration of the season in our sing-along portion of the program, where the audience will be invited to share in the joyful making of music with our talented musicians.”
The next performance will be “An Afternoon of Romance,” held on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m., also at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
