The Scottsdale Polo Academy (SPA), which was inspired by the popularity of the Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships and launched last fall, has now started its spring polo session after a successful first season that resulted in nearly a dozen polo students returning to the clinic for additional lessons and moving up to the next level. The spring season runs through April.
While there will an initial horseback riding evaluation to see where each individual is at on their riding skills, no experience is necessary. The Scottsdale Polo Academy instructors’ goal is to teach the sport in proper way safe atmosphere while having fun at the same time.
“This is a great opportunity for polo enthusiasts to learn everything they need to know about the sport of polo in a safe and fun atmosphere,” said Diego Florez, AZ Polo Club president. “The Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships have a done a tremendous job in raising the profile of polo here in Arizona and as as result we have seen a surge in people wanting to know how to play this amazing sport.”
The Scottsdale Polo Academy is located in the Cactus Equestrian Corridor at SandSpur Ranch, 12302 N. 93rd St., Scottsdale). Additional locations may open with the growing demand. Instruction and scrimmages are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The mission of the academy is to give those interested in the sport a chance to learn polo in a safe and enjoyable environment.
