The tastes of Brooklyn, at home—at least that’s what the team behind the Scottsdale-based iconic pizzeria Grimaldi’s Pizzeria is offering.
Grimaldi’s, which opened its first location under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York over 100 years ago, not only serves up its time-honored tastes in its coal-fired brick oven pizzas at its restaurants, but also through its trio of thoughtfully made pasta sauces: Marinara, Tomato Basil, and Arrabbiata. The recipes for each were inspired by its century of tradition.
We checked in to learn about them, including with which foods each sauce pairs best.
First, each sauce is crafted using tomatoes from Italy’s prized San Marzano region, extra virgin olive oil, and carefully selected ingredients. All three are gluten-free, dairy-free, kosher, non-GMO, and free from soy and canola oils.
“Grimaldi’s pasta sauces are crafted with the same level of care and attention to detail as the menu items in our pizzerias,” says Joseph Ciolli, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria CEO. “We created these sauces to bring families together to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine and create lasting memories.”
The Marinara is rich and timeless, crafted with tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, fresh onions, garlic, sea salt, and a special blend of spices. Tomato Basil is light and savory, featuring tomatoes, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil, onions, garlic, and sea salt. For those who enjoy heat, Arrabbiata delivers a bold yet balanced kick, with tomatoes, fresh garlic, crushed red chili peppers, extra virgin olive oil, onions, and sea salt.
Ciolli recommends these pairings:
- Tomato Basil: Perfect for spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, or as the base for tomato basil soup.
- Marinara: The perfect versatile sauce for all recipes. Use for a beef ragu, baked ziti, or as a dipping sauce for mozzarella sticks.
- Arrabbiata: Ideal for sausage and peppers, calamari, or over roasted vegetables.
The sauces are available at all Grimaldi’s Valley locations, including its three in Scottsdale (DC Ranch, 20715 N. Pima Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85255), 4000 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251, Scottsdale Quarter, 15147 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale AZ 85254). They are also all BOGO through the end of February.
