Dr. Kris Alpers is the owner of the Scottsdale-based Alpers Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. His practice is known for blending advanced technology with a personal, patient-first approach to care, whether someone is there for a preventive visit or a full smile transformation.

In addition to running his dental practice, Dr. Alpers currently serves as a mentor in The Pathway’s dental implant program, a coach in the Bulletproof Dental Practice’s Mastermind program, and a volunteer for The Neighborhood Christian Clinic in Downtown Phoenix.

Here, he answers our questions on dentistry and family, and tells us about his first patient, coffee, and the thing that often surprises people the most when they meet him.

How would you describe your approach to dentistry in just a few words?
Listening, being proactive, and making sure patients feel truly cared for.

What’s something most people don’t realize about modern cosmetic dentistry?
Thanks to advanced technology, modern dentistry is more predictable than ever. Patients are often amazed that they can preview their results before treatment even begins, and they’re just as surprised by how quick and painless the process can be.

Most requested procedure?
Veneers are definitely one of the most requested cosmetic procedures. What’s interesting is that many patients come in asking for veneers, but after a full evaluation with 3D imaging and a smile simulation, we sometimes discover a different treatment plan is more effective. Our goal is to personalize the plan so that patients get the best outcome possible.

You’re passionate about education and training—what’s the latest dental innovation that excites you most?
AI is one of the most exciting shifts happening in dentistry right now. It’s helping make certain processes more efficient, like scheduling and workflow, but it’s also enhancing how we detect cavities or plan treatments. Of course, the key is using AI responsibly in a way that doesn’t replace care, but elevates it.

You mentor, coach, and volunteer on top of running a busy practice—what drives that level of dedication?
Mentoring and coaching are part of how I grow as a leader. If you want to build a great business and a strong team, you have to invest in others. And the best part is, you end up learning and growing just as much in return. Volunteering comes from a different place. That’s about giving back. I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my career, and I feel a real responsibility to use my skills to serve people who might not otherwise have access to care.

Proudest moment of your career so far?
Buying my dental practice in 2018 and having my grandpa be my very first patient.

How do you unwind after a long day at the office?
Coming home to my two little boys! After a long day, I’ll walk in the door to see them running around dressed as superheroes, and it has a way of putting everything into perspective. Of course, it’s challenging too, but when all they want is just to play with Dad, it reminds me why I do what I do.

You and your wife are high school sweethearts—what’s your favorite thing to do together now that you have two young sons?
We’ve always loved checking out new restaurants and supporting local spots around the Valley, and that’s still our go-to for date nights. But with our boys, it’s been a lot of fun getting into sports lately. We love going to their games, playing in the backyard, shooting hoops … just spending time outside and being active as a family.

If you weren’t a dentist, you’d be …
A professional golfer, at least in my dreams.

Favorite Scottsdale spot to relax and recharge?
I’m all about my favorite coffee spot, which is Tamosan in Central Scottsdale. I’m there almost every day for a quad espresso. So maybe not super relaxing, but definitely energizing.

One fun fact about you?
I’m 6’9″, which tends to surprise people right away.
