In a bold and beautiful new spring show, artist Cara Pabst Moran will exhibit her series of colorful and lively blooming florals, cacti, succulents and garden botanicals. Her exceptional paintings are a mesmerizing vision of color and swirling texture that impart natural beauty while creating their own captivating story.
"I really like doing botanicals and I have been doing some cactus," Pabst Moran says of her current paintings. Painting cacti is something a bit new for her, but she enjoys the challenge. "I like to try something new every couple of months." The trained artist obtained her BA in Art History from ASU and her keen eye for beauty and details in nature are evident in her exquisite paintings.
The mother of six was raised in a household that cherished art and indeed, Pabst Moran hails from a line of professional artists including her father Charles Pabst, owner of The Signature Gallery. "He's from San Jose and he came out to Arizona inspired by the 1950s cowboy thing. He went to ASU and that's where he met my mom," says Pabst Moran. "He's always been an artist and he majored in art. He's always had a great love of art, but it's a huge risk. My mom really pushed him to get serious about it and he took some paintings into a gallery in Scottsdale back in the early 1980s. They bought some paintings right then and there which gave him more money to invest in himself and his career really took off after that." Although her father's style is different from her own, he has been a huge artistic influence and inspiration for her.
"You don't necessarily need a degree in art to be an artist but I just always enjoyed and appreciated history and humanities and I thought that was very interesting. Growing up, I always had the talent and it was just something I took for granted," remembers Pabst Moran. Her father routinely gifted her with canvases and paints at Christmas. "It's just a part of who I am and I was always ‘the class artist,'" explains Pabst Moran. When she separated from her husband, she turned more of her time and attention towards art and she now devotes a good deal of her time to painting.
"I've always loved florals, even when I was a little girl. It was just my instinct," says Pabst Moran. "I find them incredibly beautiful because they are so simple and it's just the essence of beauty. Color celebrates that perfectly. It's really important for an artist to celebrate beauty. It's our responsibility in a way."
Pabst Moran's paintings have a deep texture creating a three dimensional quality to her works and the fluidity and movement in her creations literally makes them spring to life right in front of the viewer. Pabst Moran typically does two to three shows each year and her work is represented at the Scottsdale, Laguna Beach and Santa Fe locations of The Signature Gallery.
