Social Tap Scottsdale Boasts Approachable and Unique Menu and Introduces Weekend Brunch

At Social Tap Scottsdale, it really is all about being social. The upscale-yet-laid-back eatery is just a stone’s throw from Old Town Scottsdale, and features ample indoor and outdoor seating to appeal to the exact way diners like to enjoy their social dining time. As an added bonus, guests at Social Tap enjoy the music at sound levels that will still allow you to hold a conversation.

Weekend brunch is now on tap at Social Tap Scottsdale. There is no better place to enjoy the buzz of Scottsdale or a weekend ball game than from this fun spot. Brunch runs 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and features fabulous entrees and cocktails with a delicious departure from typical brunch fare.

Social Tap Scottsdale is the third of four locations (there are also two in San Diego and one in Ventura, CA) and is a welcome addition to the neighborhood just slightly east and south of Indian School and Scottsdale Roads. Co-owner Steve McDonald has brought this special restaurant and bar to Scottsdale and it has all the mystique and draw of Old Town Scottsdale, with a hip and fun vibe, yet an upscale and enjoyable environment. Social Tap is one place where you can go to have a great meal chocked full of creativity, enjoy creative cocktails and craft beer, and still be able to carry on an understandable conversation with friends. Yes, this is the restaurant that figured out how to do that!

Brunch

The first brunch item we got to sink our teeth into was the chicken and waffles entrée served up with whipped butter, maple syrup and fresh berries. Sure, lots of places serve this entrée, but the Social Tap version features fluffy and ever-so-slightly crisped waffles and generously-sized juicy and lightly breaded chicken breasts. The addition of the berries gives the entrée a nice pop of color and a little extra taste sensation to go with the chicken and waffles. The Social Tap version definitely hits the spot.

Another fabulous entrée is the Southwestern-inspired ranchero omelet. The large omelet includes three eggs stuffed with a pasilla pepper and a pepper jack/manchego cheese mix. Then, it is laid on top of pepper strips for just a little kick of heat, and topped with ranchero sauce and a sour cream drizzle. The entrée is accompanied with chips and house made salsa. In fact, just about everything on the Social Tap menu is made from scratch and from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The difference is in the taste! As we discovered, the use of locally sourced products prepared in creative recipes create the special appeal and unique flavors of each entrée at Social Tap.

What would weekend brunch be without a freshly-made craft cocktail? We discovered two stand-outs. First, was the Social Tap Mimosa. Often considered an anticipated brunch standard, Social Tap raises the bar with fresh seasonal fruit muddled with peach juice, orange juice and champagne. Next, we enjoyed a Blueberry Press. The beautiful drink boasts Three Olives Citrus Vodka, muddled mint, blueberries, agave nectar and lemonade. Either of these two cocktails are a wonderful way to greet the morning.

Lunch and More, More, More!

As if the brunch entrees weren’t fabulous enough, next we delved into a pile of nachos stacked with painstaking precision. If you’re dining with friends, this is the dish to order. The nachos feature creatively layered levels of chips, black beans and poblano cheese topped with manchego, pepper jack and cotija cheeses, guacamole, scallions and pico de gallo. We also chose chicken for our nachos and it wound up being a delicious choice (also available with beef or pork). The nachos have so many delicious ingredients it could easily serve as a meal for two people.

Next up, were the tacos. I often will judge a restaurant by its tacos, and Social Tap did not disappoint. We noshed on a trio of tacos, and in true creative fashion, Social Tap has interpreted the Southwestern staple in its own way, and with delicious results. We tried the shrimp, filet mignon and ahi tacos, and each one was outstanding. There clearly was a lot of thought by Social Tap’s Executive Chef, Keon Salehizadeh in creating these.

The shrimp taco featured sautéed shrimp (or choose them fried, too), cabbage and cotija cheese topped with pico de gallo and Baja white sauce. The ahi tuna is an unexpected treat, especially if you love sushi or sashimi.The lightly seared ahi tuna taco includes a cucumber wasabi slaw with sriacha sauce, teriyaki and a kick of wasabi. What a fantastic entrée that showcases the merging of two different culinary styles.

Finally, the third taco was our favorite. The filet mignon truffle tacos are simply unequaled and we haven’t had anything like this anywhere in the Valley. The tender and flavorful filet mignon is topped with a mushroom, poblano and shallot mix and is then kissed with black truffle salt. What an outstanding taco! Our suggestion? Order two different styles of tacos and then share with a friend. You won’t be disappointed.

Dessert? Okay, Let’s Do it!

We almost didn’t have room for dessert. Almost. Chef Keon graciously came to our table and described Social Tap’s newest dessert, Carrot No-Cake, and we hung on his every word. I’ll just preface this dessert by saying it’s the best dessert I’ve had in any restaurant this entire year. That being said, here’s the low-down.

Chef Keon created a reduction sauce of carrots, milk and spices as the bed of this outrageously wonderful dessert. Set atop the reduction is a creative curl of vanilla bean ice cream, fresh berries, a few small dollops of cream cheese that perfectly even out the sweetness, and then the entire thing is sprinkled with a walnut crumble. The dessert is enough to share, but, trust me, you won’t want to!

Social Tap also offers 24 craft beers on tap with an emphasis on local brews and a custom cocktail menu created by top-level mixologists.

The 30-plus TVs and state-of-the-art sound system make Social Tap a great place to watch all your favorite sporting events, including the hottest UFC Pay-Per-View parties hosted by Jim Grieshaber of Cage Side Seat MMA, JAMM7 and Fox Sports 910.
