Scarizona Scaregrounds Kicks Off Inaugural Year in Ghoulish Style
By Lynette Carrington
It’s dark. It’s a rock quarry. As you make your way to the gates, there are ghastly creatures lurking at every turn. You hear screaming in the distance and moans from the dead and undead. What does this mean? You are at Scarizona Scaregrounds, of course!
Located at 1901 N. Alma School Road in Mesa, Scarizona Scaregrounds features two haunted houses—Epic Fear and Slayer’s Slaughter House. Epic Fear will play on every phobia you can imagine. This is the place where the dark, scary and unimaginable of your every nightmare comes to life. Slayer’s Slaughter House will be a window to all that is gooey, gory and twisted. You’ve never experienced haunted houses quite like this before! In fact, one of the main architects of the ghostly, ghoulish and ghastly haunted houses used to work for Rob Zombie. So, you will definitely be in for some crazy visuals and bone chilling scares!
Scarizona Scaregrounds also features Arizona’s first ever interactive paintball attraction known as Operation Zombie Storm. A 16 passenger military truck takes zombie hunters on a treacherous route through a wave of zombies that reside in various “living quarters.” The only weapons passengers will have to defend themselves? A paintball gun loaded with about 200 rounds of ammunition! The 20 minute ride through the land of the undead is an absolute rush and the staff that takes you on your hunt is a real scream.
Enjoy live music on the weekends and, for the adults, there is the Cemetery Beer Garden Boo-Z-Bar—where all the spirits come alive! The beer garden is available Thursdays through Sundays. Each weekend a portion of the sales from alcohol will go to a different charity, including Arizona Network for PKU and Allied Disorders, Fighter Country and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale.
Tickets and discounts for the event are available for purchase on the company’s website at www.scarizona.com. Discounted tickets are also available at participating Taco Bells in the Valley. Scarizona Scaregrounds will be open nightly October 2 to November 7. Entrance into both haunted houses will be $20 or people can buy a package ticket for $35 that gets them into the haunted houses and Operation Zombie Storm. Scarizona Scaregrounds is located at 1901 N. Alma School Rd. in Mesa, just north of the 202.
