Notre Dame Preparatory Academy Names New Principal by Admin A New Principal for Notre Dame PrepOn Wednesday, May 18, Jerry Zander was named interim principal of Notre Dame Preparatory High School in Scottsdale for the 2016-17 school year.The decision was received with resounding applause from the NDP faculty and staff when the announcement was made. Zander, who lives in Phoenix with his wife Jenny and two young sons, is a jovial and a well-liked assistant Principal at Notre Dame Prep.Current NDP principal Jim Gmelich will serve as the school’s first president starting July 1. Bishop Thomas Olmsted modified the future leadership structure at the school to include both a president and a principal.“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to serve the NDP community as interim principal,” Zander said.Beginning his career in Catholic education as a math teacher at Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett, Washington, Zander found himself seeking opportunities for leadership and moved from teaching, to serving as director of student life and athletic director. “It is the relationships that educators form with students that make this vocation so rewarding,” he said.After 15 years at AMHS, Zander left the Pacific Northwest for Tucson, where he taught math for two years before coming to Notre Dame Prep to serve as assistant principal. “I have grown to love this community and look forward to working with everyone to continue the tradition of excellence here at NDP,” he said.The search for a permanent principal will begin next the fall, according to Gmelich, who is grateful that Zander is taking the helm next year. “We are blessed to have someone as talented as Mr. Zander to lead NDP through the coming school year,” Gmelich said. Opened in 2002, Notre Dame Prep is a Catholic diocesan college preparatory high school with a co-ed enrollment of 894 students. The school has received national recognition for the caliber of its academic and athletic programs. The school is located at 9701 E. Bell Road in Scottsdale.
